Somali Peace Line, with support from the Life and Peace Institute, organized a two-day Community-based Art Exhibit and Youth-led Dialogue on the Need for Social Healing and the Role of Communities in Jowhar on 21st and 22nd November 2023. The event brought together 80 participants from the local communities, including traditional elders, women groups, youth, people with disabilities, and Jowhar district council members, with equal representation of 40 males and 40 females.
The primary objective of the event was to address the trauma experienced by communities affected by natural disasters and conflicts. Through the use of visual art, participants explored themes related to conflict and catastrophe, coping strategies, and both traditional and contemporary approaches to healing and resolving conflicts. Additionally, the event provided a platform for open dialogue and discussion about the role of communities in the process of trauma healing.
By engaging various community stakeholders and utilizing artistic expression, the event aimed to foster social healing and resilience among the affected communities. Somali Peace Line and its partners are committed to supporting communities in their journey towards recovery and promoting peace and harmony in the region.
