Somali Peace Line (SPL), in partnership with the Life & Peace Institute, conducted a two-day workshop in Baidoa focusing on the National Reconciliation Framework (NRF) and the Southwest State (SWS) Youth Policy. The training brought together thirty youth participants and moderators, alongside six members of the Baidoa NRF Platform.
Purpose of the Training
The workshop aimed to equip participants with knowledge of government policies related to peacebuilding and social cohesion. It strengthened their understanding of civic responsibilities and citizens’ rights, enabling them to contribute meaningfully to reconciliation and community development.
Key Discussions and Outcomes
- Participants explored the difference between reconciliation, genuine reconciliation, and agreement, emphasizing the importance of lasting solutions.
- The training enhanced awareness of the NRF, a national strategy initiated by the Ministry of Interior, Federal Affairs and Reconciliation to guide peacebuilding efforts across Somalia.
- Youth participants gained insights into their roles in promoting unity, trust, and recovery from conflict.
- The SWS Youth Policy was analyzed, with priority pillars identified as:
- Youth Social and Political Engagement – empowering youth voices in governance.
- Quality Education – addressing access, relevance, and skills for employment.
- Combating Irregular Migration – tackling root causes through education, opportunity, and stability.

The workshop fostered stronger collaboration among youth, civic actors, and government institutions. By prioritizing education and youth engagement, participants highlighted actionable pathways to empower young people and advance reconciliation. Moving forward, coordinated efforts will be essential to translate policy into tangible impact for Somali communities.
