Promoting Parenting Without Violence: Safe Families Training Strengthens IDP Communities in Dhusamareb

Somali Peace Line (SPL), and in partnership with Save the Children Somalia, successfully hosted Safe Families training sessions in Dhusamareb, Galmudug State, Somalia.
The sessions brought together parents and children from IDP communities to promote safer and more supportive family environments. The training focused on strengthening positive parenting practices and helping parents and caregivers understand how to raise and discipline children without violence.
Participants learned about Parenting Without Violence, gaining practical skills in positive communication, respectful relationships, child protection, and alternatives to harmful forms of punishment.
Parents and children from five IDP camps—including Arladi, Shabellow, El Qayof, and El Hamud—took part in the sessions. This initiative highlights the importance of working with families and communities to prevent violence against children and promote safer, healthier, and more resilient families.
The Safe Families training in Dhusamareb provided parents and children with practical knowledge and skills to promote positive, non violent parenting and stronger family relationships. By encouraging respectful communication, positive discipline, and child protection, the initiative contributes to creating safer and more nurturing environments for children. Continued collaboration with families, communities, and partners will be essential to preventing violence against children and building healthier, safer, and more resilient communities across Galmudug.
