On April 22, 2025, Somali Peace Line (SPL) facilitated a one-day refresher and advanced training session in Galkayo. The program focused on enhancing participants’ practical skills in complex case management, multi-sectoral coordination, and survivor-centered approaches to Gender-Based Violence (GBV) response.
The training welcomed 30 participants (18 men and 12 women) from diverse local service providers, including health professionals, GBV cluster actors, legal aid representatives, law enforcement officers, and cash assistance teams. During the session, updated referral protocols were introduced, along with a focus on building trust and ensuring confidentiality when supporting survivors of GBV.
Rakia Ali Mohamed from the IMC reflected on the session:
“This training has opened our eyes to the importance of collaboration across sectors. We now understand how to efficiently refer cases and deliver comprehensive support to survivors.”
Hassan Mohamud Jamac, a district police representative, emphasized the significance of the training, saying:
“As law enforcement, we now recognize the best practices for handling GBV cases with sensitivity, ensuring the safety and dignity of survivors throughout the legal process.”
Participants expressed a strong interest in ongoing learning opportunities, urging SPL to arrange follow-up capacity-building sessions to further strengthen GBV response mechanisms and foster sustainable service delivery improvements.
This initiative underscores the vital need for continuous training and cross-sector collaboration to effectively tackle GBV in Galkayo.
