Youth in the Lead: Strengthening Dialogue in Abudwak

Youth in the Lead: Strengthening Dialogue in Abudwak

Somali Peace Line, through the Youth in the Lead project, in partnership with the Life & Peace Institute and with support from the European Union in Somalia, convened a panel discussion in Abudwak district to highlight the importance and sustainability of the reconciliation process between the communities of Abudwak and Herale.

The forum brought together SD youth members, community elders, women’s groups, peace ambassadors, and representatives from the local administration. Their participation reflected the value of inclusive community engagement in addressing conflict and advancing peace efforts.
Three key speakers—a community elder, a local administration representative, and a peace ambassador—shared perspectives on peacebuilding, community leadership, and the challenges of reconciliation. The session was moderated by an SPL staff member, guiding reflections on the peace process, existing challenges, and opportunities for lasting reconciliation.

Discussions emphasized that sustainable peace requires inclusive participation, committed leadership, patience, cooperation, and continuous dialogue among all community members. The forum reinforced a shared commitment to peaceful coexistence and long term reconciliation in the area.
