Under the SafeStep Project funded by the Somalia Humanitarian Fund (SHF), SPL conducted a series of Gender-Based Violence (GBV) awareness-raising and outreach activities in Bulaley village and the Degan and Doho Mudug IDPs camp, reaching out to 230 beneficiaries in dec 2024. In the densely populated camps of Doxo Mudug and Deegan IDP, women and children face heightened risks due to the lack of basic services and cultural norms around gender roles, exacerbating the situation. Similarly, in Bulaley Village, a lack of awareness about available resources inhibits survivors from seeking help.
Through workshops and outreach initiatives, SPL has provided communities with knowledge on preventing and responding to GBV, highlighted available services, and empowered individuals to take action. Community leaders have played a vital role in driving these efforts, contributing creating a safer and more resilient environment for all.
As an immediate result of these activities, beneficiaries are becoming more engaged, actively seeking information on preventing and addressing GBV.
The outreach sessions have disseminated crucial information on services such as counseling, medical care, and legal support. The increasing interest displayed by the community indicates a proactive approach towards a safer and more informed future, where individuals are aware of their rights and equipped to safeguard them effectively.
