As part of our organization’s efforts to promote Working with Community Action Committees (CAC) and Daryeel Disability Organization to conduct community awareness sessions and dialogues, The Somali Peace Line team in Abudwak aim was to address child protection, disability rights, and social/cultural norms that contribute to sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV) and stigmatize child survivors. Additionally, develop action plans led by the community to promote positive social and gender norms.
The SPL team had specific focus on harmful practices related to child protection, disability rights, and social/cultural norms that contribute to sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV) and stigmatize child survivors. It was important to note that effective community sensitization campaigns require a comprehensive approach that involves not only raising awareness but also addressing the underlying social, cultural and economic factors that contribute to the prevalence of harmful practices.
This can involve working with key stakeholders such as community leaders, parents, teachers, and local authorities to promote positive social norms and practices related to child protection, disability rights, and social/cultural norms. The campaigns were conducted in various communities in different IDP camps in Abudwak District.
