Somali Peace Line has opened two Child-Friendly, Women and Girls Spaces at the Doho Mudug and Degan IDP Camps in Galkayo, Galmudug State of Somalia, constructed under the SafeStep Project, funded by the Somali Humanitarian Fund (SHF).
An inauguration ceremony was held at the Degan IDP Camp, where H.E. Abdirahman Sheikh Hassan, Mayor of Galkayo District, cut the ribbon to officially open the spaces. The event was attended by the Vice Chairman of Mudug Region for Welfare and Projects, members of the Department of Social Affairs of Galkayo municipality, community members, and officials from Somali Peace Line (SPL).
The two Child-Friendly Spaces were established to respond effectively to the needs of victims of child protection and gender-based violence. These spaces are designed to serve as learning and play areas for children living in the Doho Mudug and Degan IDP camps. Children accessing these facilities will also receive counseling and emotional support.
In his remarks at the opening ceremony, the mayor expressed gratitude to Somali Peace Line (SPL) for their efforts in implementing this important project.
