Children’s Voices for Sustainability: Somali Chapter Participation in Regional Workshop

Somali Peace Line (SPL) facilitated the participation of children representing the Child Led Initiative (CLI) Somali Chapter in a regional workshop on the Development of the Sustainability Plan for the Horn and Eastern Africa CLI.
The workshop was organized by Children’s Voice Today, in collaboration with Save the Children Regional, and funded by DANIDA. It brought together child representatives from Somalia , Rwanda and South Sudan the region to review CLI interventions over the past two years, assess achievements and challenges, and agree on concrete actions to sustain and strengthen the initiative.
A key feature of the workshop was the use of the Spider Tool, a participatory evaluation method that enables children to visualize progress across different thematic areas. Through this tool, participants reflected on the effectiveness of CLI’s interventions, identified areas for improvement, and proposed strategies for long term sustainability.
By actively engaging in the process, Somali children contributed valuable perspectives on how the initiative can continue to promote child rights, participation, and protection across the Horn and Eastern Africa region. SPL’s facilitation ensured that their voices were meaningfully represented in shaping the future of the regional child led movement.
This collaboration highlights the importance of child led participation in regional planning and demonstrates how partnerships between local organizations, international NGOs, and donors can strengthen efforts to build sustainable, inclusive, and child centered initiatives.
