Citizens’ Right to Basic Health Services: Public Dialogue in Kismayo

Somali Peace Line (SPL), with support from @UNPBF_Somalia and in collaboration with @SYLeader and @LPI_Voice, organized a Public Dialogue in Kismayo under the theme “Citizens’ Right to Basic Health Services.”
The forum brought together community members, health stakeholders, and officials to discuss the importance of ensuring citizens’ access to quality, affordable, accessible, and responsive healthcare services.
Discussions focused on the current state of healthcare and the challenges communities face in accessing basic services. Panelists explored issues of citizens’ rights and the responsibilities of institutions in providing and improving healthcare.
Key speakers included Mr. Mohamed Hussein, Director General of the Jubbaland Ministry of Health; Yasmin Mohamed, Deputy Chairperson of the Jubbaland Medical Association; and Lawyer Awaale Abdiwali.

Panelists responded to questions on healthcare access, service delivery, citizens’ rights, and institutional accountability. Members of the public engaged directly with officials and panelists, sharing experiences, raising questions, and highlighting challenges in accessing healthcare.
The open and transparent forum provided a meaningful platform for community participation and accountability, empowering citizens to voice concerns and contribute to shaping solutions for essential health services.
