The SPL Sustained Dialogue (SD) Youth Group, district youth representatives, and young people from ten neighborhoods of Baidoa organized a large scale clean up campaign targeting key public areas. The initiative emerged from SD sessions where youth identified waste accumulation and environmental degradation as pressing community concerns.
The campaign focused on strategic sites, including Baidoa’s main bridge and nearby drainage channels, where improper waste disposal had created health and environmental risks. Youth volunteers, supported by the District Administration, removed significant amounts of debris, improving cleanliness and public safety.
Deputy District Commissioner Mr. Feysal praised the initiative, announcing stronger measures against illegal dumping, installation of awareness signboards, and the designation of Thursday as Baidoa’s weekly clean up day.
Supported by SPL in collaboration with LPI and SGRDO, and through UN Peacebuilding Fund, the SD Program continues to empower young people to transform dialogue into meaningful community action, fostering collaboration between youth, civil society, communities, and local authorities.
