This project has been going on from 2008. Children are the most war and draught affected section of the community.The project has different tasks on community mobilization whether is IDPs or settled duty bearer presentation on child rights, child rights advocacy for local authorities and referral support for disadvantaged war affected children.
Children in South Central Zone (SCZ) experience different protection problems including deaths, wounds,exploitative work, children engaged in hazardous labor, children living and working in the streets,child separation, children without primary care givers and orphans, children with mental and physical problems and other forms of child right abuses.
Lack of knowledge on child rights and high rate of violence have also weakened community mechanisms for protecting children from violence or abuse including recruitment into fighting militia, abuse and violation of basic rights of children, limited or no access to basic services for vulnerable children and lack of advocacy with duty bearers to address key issues affecting vulnerable children.The community mobilization on child protection in emergency situation project aims to contribute to a reduction in the protection problems affecting children as a result of the impact of the armed conflict and humanitarian emergency in CSZ by strengthening the capacity of communities in the targeted 384 communities to prevent and respond to them
This project has been renewed on May 2011 and has already covered most of its planned activities as follows:
Project Achievements from May-0ct 2011
- Conducted mobilization in 77 communities on the prevention of child rights violations.
- Community awareness increased on child Protection in six targeted regions
- The CPAs established 77 CPCs who are currently engaged in protection practical work among communities.
- Provided emergency medical referral assistance to 456 child victims of human rights abuse
- SPL supported Ambulances referred 573 children to other services
- Hamarweine, Hamarjajab and Wadajir Police stations collaborate with SPL work to prevent and respond to child abuse in their districts
- Ministry of defence allows CPAs to visit TFG military bases to identify any child soldiers recruited by the security forces
- The CPAs conduct MRE session at the schools, Madrassa, and IDP camps to increase awareness about risks of UXOs, landmines and other explosives.
- Referred 456 malnourished children to nutrition centers

Conclusion
Although community mobilization on child protection is very difficult and burden while children have health problems and dieing with malnutrition, SPL child protection team have worked hard to build a very good relation with community, advocating community need based support with other humanitarian aid workers and other social actors to reach its project targets and support disadvantaged children affected by drought and war.
