As part of the Danjire Project, Somali Peace Line convened a one-day forum in Jowhar dedicated to strengthening the advocacy capacity of Disabled Persons Organizations (DPOs). The event aimed to empower DPOs to assert their rights and influence decision-making processes at both regional and national levels.
Inclusive Participation
The forum brought together 47 participants — 31 men and 16 women — representing a broad spectrum of stakeholders, including community platforms, civil society organizations (CSOs), persons with disabilities, religious leaders, government officials, district council members, the Chamber of Commerce, and humanitarian NGOs. This diverse representation fostered a rich and inclusive dialogue, marking a pivotal step toward advancing disability rights in Somalia.
Forum Objectives
The primary objective was to solicit critical input on the proposed Disability Bill Policy, ensuring it reflects the lived realities and needs of persons with disabilities. Discussions centered on enhancing accountability and promoting inclusive policy frameworks.
