On February 22, 2025, Somali Peace Line (SPL), with support from the European Union (EU), organized a one-day consultation meeting between youth groups and the Ministry of Youth and Sports of Hirshabelle State, Somalia, in Jowhar.
The meeting aimed to involve youth groups in providing valuable input towards the development of the youth policy in Hirshabelle, addressing the needs of the youth, and ensuring greater accountability in the policy formulation process.
Sixty participants, including 33 females and 27 males, attended the meeting. They engaged in lively discussions surrounding the principles of the draft youth policy for Hirshabelle, contributing ideas and suggestions on priority areas, strategies, and key principles.
A central focus was placed on identifying and addressing the critical needs of the youth, ensuring proper representation and accountability in the policy framework.
The consultation meeting enhanced understanding between the youth groups and the Ministry of Youth and Sports of Hirshabelle State, increased youth awareness of the youth policy, and provided a platform for voicing concerns and aspirations.
This collaboration marked a significant step towards building a more inclusive and responsive policy framework for Hirshabelle State’s youth.
