Training – Child Rights, Participation, and Advocacy.

Introduction

Somali Peace Line (SPL) conducted a series of impactful training sessions for parents, teachers, community groups, and traditional leaders focused on critical topics related to child rights, child participation, and advocacy. The training took place in two regions—Hiran (Beledweyne) and Galgadud (Abudwak)—engaging a total of 56 participants. The primary aim was to empower key stakeholders with the knowledge and tools necessary to advocate for and protect children’s rights within their local communities.

Objectives of the Training

The training was structured around three primary objectives:

1. Enhance the capacity of parents, teachers, community groups, and traditional leaders in understanding and advocating for child rights.
2. Highlight the importance of involving children in decisions that directly affect their lives, promoting child participation in various community processes.
3. Encourage advocacy for child protection and the development of child-friendly policies at the local level, ensuring the well-being and safety of children.

Outcomes of the Training

The training sessions yielded several significant outcomes:

• Participants developed a stronger understanding of child rights and their crucial role in fostering a safe, inclusive environment for children.
• Parents, teachers, and community leaders left the training feeling more equipped to advocate for child protection and ensure children’s participation in decision-making.
• The training fostered greater collaboration among stakeholders, encouraging a collective commitment to advancing child rights and addressing protection concerns.
• Participants expressed a readiness to implement what they had learned by raising awareness in their communities and ensuring that children’s voices are heard and valued.

Conclusion

This training marks an important step in advancing the protection of children’s rights and ensuring their active participation in community life. SPL remains committed to empowering communities with the knowledge and skills needed to create safer and more inclusive environments for children.
